How Bedbugs Spread Quickly and Easily

If you do find signs of bedbug infestation, there is no need to be ashamed, it doesn’t mean you are unhygienic or that your house is dirty.

bedbugs were once associated with poor neighborhoods but, if anyone is to blame for the current resurgence of the bedbug problem, it's wealthier folks with the money to go on foreign holidays and travel more.

bedbugs thrive in all temperate zones and their numbers are very much on the increase.  In short, despite being virtually eradicated in the last century, bedbugs are now here, there and everywhere.

Bedbugs can get in to your home in many ways.

bedbugs may have climbed aboard your clothing while you were on the bus, the train or the metro.

Trains on the London Underground, and many other public transport systems around the world, are known to occasionally have bedbug issues.

Your cat or dog may have brought in bedbugs from outside.

Rodents, bats, and other small animals that may be nesting in your home could also be the cause of the infestation.

If you have been away on holiday then bedbugs may have hitched a lift in your bag or suitcase

If you have just bought a second-hand or antique piece of furniture then this may have been infested with bedbugs.

Second-hand, or thrift shop clothing or bed linen, may also have been the source of your bedbug problem.

If you live in an apartment block, bedbugs can easily move between accommodation. To the roaming bedbug, your apartment block is just one building. Because of the stigma attached to bedbug infestations, many people don't warn their neighbors and this makes the problem worse.

Where bedbugs nest

Once they have found their way in to your home, bedbugs will head for the areas where you or your family sleep and make a nest in your bed, or bed frame (if it is made of wood), or as nearby as possible.

This can and does include bedroom furniture, soft toys, carpets, curtains, cracks in the wall, gaps between wainscoting and floors, and even behind AC power supply sockets.

The bedbug breeding and feeding cycle (with you and your family as the hosts) then begins. The longer an infestation is established, the harder it is to get rid of.
